These edits, some subtle and others more drastic, appear to change not just quality or format, but the actual content of the videos. In some cases, entire scenes were modified, audio replaced, or objects added or removed — leading to a chilling conclusion: YouTube’s AI might have begun rewriting reality itself.
This revelation surfaced after a former employee of YouTube’s parent company exposed internal details about a program known as “Project Prism.” The project, described as an “AI-assisted content enhancement initiative,” was allegedly rolled out quietly in late 2024, affecting a small but growing number of public videos. The system, powered by generative AI, could modify video content on the fly — improving lighting, enhancing faces, removing “distractions,” and even inserting missing elements based on what the AI believed “should” be there.
The edits were not disclosed to the content creators, and the modified videos were served to viewers without any indication that they had been altered. Many creators had no idea their content had changed. Only recently did a few begin to notice differences between the versions they uploaded and the versions currently live on YouTube.

The implications are far-reaching and disturbing.

No tools were provided for creators to review or reverse the edits, and no indicators were added to inform viewers that content had been modified.
