In a surprising revelation, Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has claimed that OpenAI’s ChatGPT used her voice for its artificial intelligence model despite her explicit refusal. The actress, known for her roles in blockbuster films such as “Black Widow” and “Lost in Translation,” expressed her outrage and disbelief in an interview on Monday.

Johansson stated that she was initially approached by OpenAI with a proposal to license her voice for use in their AI technologies. However, after careful consideration, she decided to decline the offer, citing concerns over privacy and the potential for misuse of her vocal likeness.

“I was approached by OpenAI some time ago with an offer to license my voice for their AI,” Johansson said. “While I appreciate the innovative work they are doing, I had serious reservations about how my voice might be used and the potential implications for privacy and consent.”

Despite her refusal, Johansson was stunned to discover that her voice was used by ChatGPT. “I was shocked when I found out that my voice had been used anyway. This was done without my consent, and it’s a clear violation of my rights.”

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has not yet issued a formal statement in response to Johansson’s allegations. However, the incident raises significant ethical and legal questions about the use of celebrities’ voices and likenesses in AI technologies without explicit permission.

Legal experts suggest that Johansson could potentially pursue legal action against OpenAI for unauthorized use of her voice. Intellectual property attorney Linda Simmons commented, “If these allegations are true, Scarlett Johansson has a strong case. Unauthorized use of a person’s voice, especially for commercial purposes, is a serious violation of their rights and could lead to significant legal consequences for OpenAI.”

This controversy comes amid growing concerns about the ethical implications of AI and machine learning technologies. As AI systems become more advanced and capable of mimicking human voices and behaviors, the importance of consent and the protection of individual rights have become increasingly pressing issues.

Johansson’s revelation has sparked a broader discussion within the entertainment industry and beyond. Many are calling for stricter regulations and clearer guidelines to ensure that individuals’ voices and likenesses cannot be used without their explicit permission.

In her interview, Johansson emphasized the need for greater awareness and protections regarding AI. “It’s crucial that we establish strong boundaries and clear guidelines for how these technologies can be used. No one should have their voice or likeness used without their consent. We need to protect people’s rights and ensure that ethical standards are upheld.”

The incident serves as a cautionary tale for both the tech industry and public figures, highlighting the potential risks and ethical dilemmas posed by rapidly advancing AI technologies. As the debate continues, the resolution of Johansson’s case may set a precedent for how such issues are handled in the future.
