Texas Attorney General James Wilson has launched a significant legal offensive against two major adult websites, xHamster and Chaturbate, by filing a lawsuit that accuses the platforms of enabling and profiting from illegal activities, including sex trafficking and exploitation.
The lawsuit, announced on Monday, marks a notable escalation in the ongoing battle against online exploitation, as state authorities aim to hold digital platforms accountable for their role in facilitating harmful behavior.
According to Attorney General Wilson, both xHamster and Chaturbate have turned a blind eye to rampant abuse occurring on their platforms, prioritizing profits over the safety and well-being of their users, including vulnerable individuals such as minors.

During a press conference addressing the lawsuit, Attorney General Wilson stated, “These websites have consistently failed to implement adequate measures to prevent the spread of illegal content and protect users from exploitation. Texas will not stand idly by while our citizens, especially our children, are victimized for profit.”
The lawsuit alleges that the platforms have allowed users to upload and distribute explicit content, including material depicting minors, without implementing sufficient safeguards to detect and remove such content. Furthermore, it accuses xHamster and Chaturbate of profiting from subscriptions, advertising, and virtual tokens associated with live-streamed content that may involve coercion or exploitation.
In response to the allegations, representatives from both xHamster and Chaturbate have emphasized their commitment to combating illegal activity on their platforms and cooperating with law enforcement agencies. They have highlighted the challenges inherent in moderating user-generated content on a large scale while affirming their dedication to user safety.

“We take allegations of illegal activity on our platform very seriously and have invested significant resources into developing robust content moderation systems,” stated a spokesperson for xHamster. “While we cannot comment on pending litigation, we remain committed to working with authorities to address any concerns they may have.”
Similarly, a representative for Chaturbate expressed concern about allegations of exploitation and trafficking, asserting the platform’s commitment to cooperating fully with law enforcement investigations.
The lawsuit filed by Texas underscores the growing scrutiny facing online platforms and the push for greater accountability in policing harmful content. It raises important questions about the responsibilities of digital platforms in regulating user-generated content and the potential implications for internet regulation.
As the legal proceedings unfold, stakeholders including advocacy groups and internet rights organizations are closely monitoring the case, hoping for outcomes that prioritize user safety and hold platforms accountable for their actions in the digital space.
The lawsuit against xHamster and Chaturbate signals a significant step in the effort to combat online exploitation, as state authorities take proactive measures to protect individuals from harm in the evolving landscape of the internet.
