In a recent study, it has been discovered that a significant number of National Broadband Network (NBN) users in Australia face frequent outages, with a staggering 1 in 15 users experiencing an outage each day. The findings shed light on a persistent issue that continues to frustrate internet users across the country.
The study, conducted by an independent research group, analyzed the outage reports from a diverse range of NBN users. The data collected over a period of several months revealed a troubling trend: a substantial portion of NBN subscribers face regular disruptions to their internet services.

According to the research findings, out of every 15 NBN users, one user experiences an outage daily. This equates to approximately 6.7% of NBN users nationwide. The outages varied in duration, ranging from short disruptions to prolonged periods of no internet connectivity.
The impact of these outages on individuals and businesses cannot be understated. In today’s digital age, where internet connectivity is essential for communication, work, and entertainment, frequent outages severely hinder productivity and disrupt daily life. From online meetings and remote learning to e-commerce and entertainment streaming, the reliance on a stable internet connection has never been greater.
The study raises concerns about the stability and reliability of the NBN infrastructure and highlights the need for further investigation and improvements. While occasional disruptions may be expected in any network, the frequency of outages revealed by this research is alarmingly high.
NBN Co, the company responsible for the operation and maintenance of the NBN network, acknowledged the issue and pledged to address the concerns. In a statement, NBN Co spokesperson emphasized their commitment to providing a reliable and robust network, stating, “We understand the frustration caused by network outages and are working diligently to minimize their occurrence. We are investing in infrastructure upgrades and implementing measures to enhance network stability.”
The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN), an organization advocating for consumer rights in the communications sector, called for greater transparency from NBN Co and increased accountability to ensure consistent service quality.
As NBN users continue to experience daily outages, it is crucial for the relevant stakeholders to collaborate and take prompt action to rectify the situation. A reliable and stable internet connection is vital for individuals, businesses, and the overall progress of the digital economy.
While the study’s findings indicate a troubling reality, it is hoped that the data will spur proactive measures to address the underlying issues and pave the way for an improved NBN experience for all Australians.
